Meibography
Meibography
Meibography is an imaging technique used to examine the structure and function of the Meibomian glands in the eyelids. The Meibomian glands are oil glands located within the eyelid that contribute to the quality and stability of tears. Meibography evaluates the health of these glands by creating images of them.

Meibography is performed using specialized devices such as Sirius Tomography and MYAH. Images of the Meibomian glands are analyzed by computer programs to provide information about their structure, density, and function.

This imaging technique is particularly important in the evaluation of Dry Eye Syndrome. Dysfunction or blockage of the Meibomian glands can lead to insufficient production of the tear film and symptoms of dry eyes. Meibography helps in planning dry eye treatment and monitoring its effectiveness by assessing the condition of the Meibomian glands.

Additionally, Meibography is used in the evaluation of eyelid infections or inflammations such as Blepharitis. These conditions can result in blockage or infection of the Meibomian glands, adversely affecting eye health. Meibography guides the diagnosis and treatment process by providing detailed visualization of the Meibomian gland condition.

Meibography is also employed in assessing the eye health of contact lens users and identifying the causes of contact lens intolerance. Contact lenses can cause changes in the eyelids and Meibomian glands, and Meibography assists in visually identifying these changes to facilitate the development of appropriate treatment plans.
